Unable to access data from secondary hard drive. I am receiving an "access denied" error message.? This hard drive was originally my main hard drive which had the Windows XP OS installed. I moved this to another computer to use as second data only drive. I set jumpers to slave drive is being read correctly I can see the file directory but when I try to open the files I receive an error message of "access denied". Please note this is not from the windows logon screen as this is a secondary data drive. However, when it was on my other computer the windows XP OS was password protected. I personally have only seen "Access Denied" in the movies, like top secret Gov't or F.B.I. movies, and even then it was just a simple wrong password. Sorry I wish I could help:( Good luck tho. If you are an adminstrator You could try taking over ownership of the drive. Right click on the drive in explorer choose properties, select the security tab, then the advanced button. In the new window select owner You should then be able to change the owner to yourself. tick the "replace owner in sub containers" box as well If you can't then windows security is locking it down. The possibly good news is that if you have a linux machine you can usually mount it as an additional partition and take the data off. then you can put it back in your windows PC as the second drive and reformat it. you may need to Fdisk it as well.
